How to identify a valve guide without an OE number
You can start a valve guide enquiry without an OE number. Send the complete engine designation, clear photographs, outer diameter, bore and length, and identify the condition of the measured sample. These details narrow the candidates; a supplier still needs to confirm the final specification.

1. Keep the engine identity with the part
Record the engine designation and version from the engine plate or service information. Include a cylinder-head marking if available. Keep a photograph of that marking with the same enquiry line as the guide. A vehicle brand alone does not distinguish engine variants; if intake or exhaust position is unknown, say so rather than assigning one.
2. Label all three measured dimensions
Use millimetres and label each value: OD for outer diameter, ID for bore, and L for overall length. Photograph where each measurement was taken. Record a shoulder, groove, flange or stepped end separately. Do not put an unlabeled string of three numbers in a mixed-parts list: the recipient must know which dimension is which.
3. Describe the sample condition
Identify a new loose sample, a removed worn part or an installed part. Keep actual measurements separate from nominal drawing dimensions and from finished-bore requirements. This article is an enquiry checklist, not a method for setting press-fit or machining tolerances. If a dimension cannot be measured reliably, mark it for drawing or sample review.
4. Search and compare the complete candidate
Use the valve guide catalogue to search by an engine or available dimensions. Open each candidate detail and compare its full specification, reference notes and end features. Search tolerance only controls which nearby catalogue values are returned. A candidate with a matching length can still differ in bore, OD, material or geometry.
5. Turn identification into a quotation request
For each candidate, provide the FarDrive reference, quantity, drawing revision if available, required material and inspection documents, packing and destination. Keep open questions in the same row. Ask the supplier to identify any proposed difference before approving a sample. Availability, fitment and the commercial quotation are confirmed for the order, not inferred from search results.
These are the existing owner-confirmed specification records selected for detailed enquiries, not a popularity ranking or a stock list. Open the record for its nominal, measured and finished-condition notes. The general sample photograph does not identify every listed reference.
This guide uses the public catalogue and existing confirmed specification records, retaining each detail page's evidence status. No new installation test, material analysis, OE interchangeability verification or supply check is claimed for this article.
